Is my 3770k a good chip?

Thread Starter
I've been looking around, and see people with overclocks that match mine with voltages in the 1.2+, whereas with my chip, I lowered the voltage to achieve my 4.4GHz overclock. Right now I'm running at 1.185v, which I believe I could go lower as at 4.2GHz I was running it at 1.140v, and yes, I had a 20 hour prime 95 test for both overclocks.

Just curious, really. I don't want to drop the voltage any lower as I think it's fine as it is, and that I don't have the patience to not use this PC for another 20 hours while I wait and see whether or not it crashes frown.gif

Temps top out at around 70c using a Hyper 212 Evo

No need to worry about that voltage. If you can keep the temps in control it should be completely safe. So if you don't have the patience to stress test with a lover voltage then just let it be like it is right now. If I were you I'd try to stabilize 4.5 or 4.6 though.

Haha, would I even notice any performance improvement?
And does anybody know if there are comparisons between a 3770k at stock and overclocked to 4.4/4.6GHz?
I found the bit-tech article, just wondering if there are any more?

lachen.gif That guy is amusing. Someone sig this quickly.

@OP: This is a good chip indeed! thumb.gif Stick to it.
I'm running 4.5GHz on 1.192V and I don't have to feed hyperthreading.

Your chip is certainly better than mine, 4.4 GHz at 1.4-1.45v and max temps of 80-85 with a H100.

Most cpu intensive games such as BF3, Crysis Guild wars 2 just to name some SC2 all benefit from raw cpu power. To give you an idea my best experience is from 4.5ghz to 4.8ghz on a 64 player map I get
about 4-6 fps higher just from that 300mhz increase.
To some maybe not be worth it but I didn't delid my 3770k and mod my gtx 680 to 1350mhz to to run moderate OC ! thumb.gif

You havto member these chips are built strong. They will last for years at high clocks and volts check out the guys degrade hread has his running 1.45v for like 5 months now 100% load no degrade at all.

BTW 4.5ghz is beast on a 3770k esp for gaming unless you delid the temps wont be worth it....Intel states voltage kills the chip more than heat imo 1.45v is the max and maybe 75-80c for daily core spikes is the max.
After I delied I hit 87c on prime95 at 1.43v which was was I got at 1.25v lol biggrin.gif
