What is a good stategy game that is turn based, little to no building stuff, and mostly fighting. I'm not looking for RTS, because it gets too hectic for my tastes. The genre can be fantasy or historical, but no space stuff. Thanks.
Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The campaign map is turn based, the battle map is RTS. It can be all turn based if you wish by just by auto resolving the battles. Even though the battle system is RTS, I think you'd enjoy it. There are a lot of mods for it as well, ranging from pure historical accuracy to Lord of the Rings fantasy. I'd definitely give it a look even though its an older game. It's the best of the series and the graphics are still pretty decent. It's my favorite strategy game and I still play it to this day. Also, Rome II: Total War is due out sometime this year.
You can get Civ 5 super cheap cause it's on sale on steam right now. Then Warlock I bought for $7 bucks with all the DLC. It goes on sale regularly enough. Finally Xcom is on sale also right now at 75%.

Highly suggest these also. In addition the Kings Bounty games. All great turn based games, that have 100s if not 1000s of hours of gameplay. Edited by Derko1 - 7/19/13 at 1:57pm
Age of Wonders 1&2, I remember enjoying these quite a few years ago.
Final fantasy tactics, a truly great oldie!
Don't think I have any modern turn based games on my steam account except XCOM, well worth checking out too.
Just noticed Might & Magic, clash of heroes on my steam. Not sure if it qualifies as a traditional turn based strategy, but I did enjoy what I played of it and its got quite a unique fighting system. Theres a demo on steam, would recommend giving it a go.
Oh and remembered Bahamut lagoon on the SNES too! Bit of mix between turn-based and standard JRPG battle system, plenty of fun.
Front mission too! Another turn based game on the SNES, it is a sci-fi setting though, I found it alot harder to get into than the others too.
Quite a few for you to look through there! Out of all of them I'd push Final Fantasy Tactics and Battle for Wesnoth, although I enjoyed them all. Edited by Buttnose - 7/19/13 at 4:47pm
YES!! Age of Wonders, Front Mission, FF Tactics... and Clash of Heroes are all incredibly awesome! I always hope that there will be some sort of HDfication of any of those games. They would be so awesome... well except Clash of Heroes, since that came out a few years back.
