True, but what I chose is only 40 bucks more than 500 bucks. If he goes with the cheaper card and puts the rebates in the mail it will be under budget.

Why the monitor? Depending on what monitor he has right now, the monitor I suggested might actually be a better screen.

While I agree with the point that for a second monitor any old 1920x1080p screen will do, but if he has a shot of upgrading his main screen why not.

Even if it is not an upgrade, an IPS screen has better picture quality than a standard screen which is nice. Plus it is not terribly expensive either, so there is not too much damage done too the budget.

Just buy your second monitor. That's what you want right? Use it, and if you can think of any reason to upgrade GPU's right now, then do that, but I really don't think you will need it. I used to push two 1080p monitors off of a 5870m and there was no performance difference between one and two monitors so long as games were only on one at a time.

I just thought of this. you could get another 570 and sli them! that would probably get you close to the performance of a 760 or better.

Thanks again for all the suggestions! I went ahead and went with step one of my upgrade process and purchased a second monitor. Doesn't have IPS but an ASUS VH238h with an end price of roughly $129.99 after rebates seemed pretty good and the monitor will match my other one I have (an ASUS VH236h) nicely. Also I borrowed a friends ASUS monitor temporarily, which surprisingly was the same model as mine, to test the configuration and it works very well so far.

As for the card It would be nice to get a new replacement graphics card since I assume it would conserve on power and space in my small Zalman Z9 Plus tower. The only problems are not just the upfront price but also whether a certain newer card can fit. Currently my Gigabyte gtx 570 is already pretty snug in there as is and need to make sure I don't go any longer than 280 mm else I have cable issues. I suppose I could look into selling my old one to alleviate the cost some. Purchasing another 570 to sli could be an inexpensive option though the problem would be that it's discontinued and offered used mainly, which is kind of hard for me to stomach with computer components (will keep an eye out for a deal though). It also looks like a 2 card setup brings forth other problems such as more heat and power drawn as well as possible problems getting them both to work in sli at times. If a gtx 770 will draw less power than 2 gtx 570s then I may have my direction to go. Really want to make sure I stay in a safe worry-free zone with my psu and also make sure my tower can manage the additional or new card.

So far it looks like I won't be getting a Gigabyte gtx 770, surpasses the length my tower can handle (which is 290mm, but again I have cables routed in the other 10mm).

Ur psu can Sli gtx 770 coz the new cards better then old one in terms of performance/watt so it good to get new cards and wont have to upgrade psu

Regarding Size I tell u the best Card Asus Gtx 670 DcuII mini best size/power and it is > 570 by a lot , and it have the option to sli in future

374$ , it is still quite and low temp with very good performance

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121768&Tpk=gtx%20670%20mini&IsVirtualParent=1

but the price bit high and I dont think u need that small so u can get 770 witch is my #1 card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121770 = 409$ if u can afford it then go for it , Asus gtx DcuII 770 , i always suggest dcuii from asus coz i find them very quite and very overclockable+ low temps

Alright thanks everyone for your help and suggestions smile.gif, really made a difference in what direction to go on this upgrade route of mine. For now i'll at least have a dual monitor setup, which i've really wanted for some time now so i'm happy with the choice. Now I just need to keep an eye out on graphics card pricing in hopes for a deal to snag on the gtx 770 in the next few months (though that mini ASUS gtx 670 looks like a good option too). I suppose with it being new I shouldn't expect much of a drop, but I have a hard time stomaching big prices without some kind of discount involved tongue.gif.
