A thank you and a few questions...

Hi all, First i want to say thanks to this forum and the members here.. i have been reading for awhile and finally built my own rig and am WAY happy... so thanks to all

Ok, first my rig

P5B-E
Zalman 9750
XFX 8800GTS680m
Supertalent OC memory kit 4-4-3-8 (least thats what its marked)
Core 2 Duo e6400

Ok, so i have been playing around and my questions are this...
I have it stable at 3.4ghz, running 47c after 20 mins of OCCT..

To reach this i had to do 8x430, as 7xanything over 450 would crash... shouldn't this memory be able to handle that easily? I even tried down to 6-6-6-14... and 1.4vcore 2.1v on the mem...

Second, I have the vcore right now set to 1.45v in the bios.. but pcprobe shows it at 1.35v, and the hardware monitor shows 1.35 also... which do i trust?

I can get this thing to boot almost to desktop at 3.6.. where should i put my limit on pushing voltages?/temp?

Also, in the mem timing page in the p5b-e you have more than just the normal 5-5-5-12 or whatever.. bout 5 options under that.. any of that need to be played it? (i don't have the bios open right now or i would say what the options are)

P.S. thanks alot guys.. this is my first overclocking since we used to make Maximizers for slot A athlons

Ok.. got 3.6 stable.. had to bump the voltage to 1.4875, i just did a quick 3dmark run and then put back to 3.2... no need to stress it for little gain

One thing i found odd was the results i got.. these were in 3dmark 2006

2.9ghz 8639
3.4ghz 8929
3.6ghz 9044

It just seem like 700mhz would get you a bigger bump... it actually got lower til i bumped up the NB voltage...

People will recommend that you dont go over 60c in TAT under prime95 or orthos load, which generally translates into like 46 or 47c in speedfan.

1.35vcore seems about right for 3.4Ghz. What you set it to doesnt matter as much as what it actually reads. I'd trust the 1.35 if it was reading that in hardware monitor, although that seems weird that it is so much lower than what you set.

Nice OC, i wish I could get my e6400 up there, but my mobo doesnt do much past 400Mhz.

3dmark didnt seem to increase too much, but did your 1m super pi time increase at least?

welcome to the forum, and dont forget to fill in your system spec's under user CP.

What case do you have? If you could fill in your system specs that'll be greatly appresiated, if you want to drop your temps and help your OC I'd swap out case fans and swap out your Northbridge/Southbridge coolers. Also, I'd up the voltage a tad bit since you can't boot into Windows as is. I'd get Antazone AS-N2000 coolers for your North/South bridge or the slightly better Antazone AS-N1000, you should see a drop in temps and you should be able to overclock more.

How well does the air flow from the front out the back? I can't tell what fan that is in the front. Also, it looks like the space between the top hard drive and the video card is blocked by wires, that could hurt the airflow a little. With that cooler, you really need good airflow.

Sorry, yeah its a horrible pic... phone sucks for pics 120mm in front blowing in 120mm in back blowing out.. the wires are just sata/power so its a thing line bundled up... no real prob.. i am pretty happy with my results.

One thing im wondering, i have been reading and some people are saying the swiftech coolers are better and some tuniq thing... is that just a case of people loving what they bought? or is there a real difference?

The Tuniq Tower is the best cooler out there. Its also hard to find.

As long as you have good airflow, what you have is fine. It requires better airflow than some other coolers though.

Actually.. i was shocked this morning, i thought i had fine airflow.. but before bed i had set my system to stock speed/voltage and woke up this morning just to check things and the temp was at 35c... at idle.. ***.. i pulled the side off my case and in minutes it dropped to 25c.. i am stunned... i am going to cut the openings open that the fan blows out of... they never make the holes big enough and it blocks alot of air coming out...

If not.. in a month or 2 i will be ordering anew case...

You could also cut a place for a side fan and mount it. Then possibly also cut a place for a fan on the top. That would really improve airflow and temps.
