8350 having some serious issues

Thread Starter
I am having a hell of a time getting my 8350 to pass prime95. i have tried upping the vcore the nb, cant seem to overclock my north bridge when i tried it fails to load windows. kept that at auto due to this. I cant seem to figure it out though.. as soon as my cpu hits 50 degrees c, it instantly makes my motherboard beep, then the temperature will either spike up or down, then usually right after this is when one of the cores fails a prime95 test..

I have managed to set everything to auto no core overclock and got it to 4.4 ghz and it seems to not fail.. but it still beeps right when it gets to 50 degrees and spikes weird then runs fine after that (even if it goes over 50 degrees again).. it does it on the same temperature everytime.. it also does this with occt, but occt doesnt push the temperature over 50 degrees until i up the vcore or go past 4.5ghz

northbridge sits right at 61 degrees max.

everything seems to be within safety parameters but i cant get it stable at 4.5 ghz.. whats a safe vcore to go up to? what else could cause this issue? is there anyway to tell what my motherboard is beeping for? im using a 990fxa-ud5 rev 1.x with latest bios and this is driving me insane.

my only goal is 4.5ghz.. very modest goal considering the cooler should be able to push to 4.7+.

I even got a BSOD that resulted in this:

ERROR: ILLEGAL SUMOUT
Possible hardware failure, consult readme.txt file, restarting test.
ERROR: ILLEGAL SUMOUT
Possible hardware failure, consult readme.txt file, restarting test.
ERROR: ILLEGAL SUMOUT
etc etc etc
Maximum number of warnings exceeded.
bsod

OCCT also failed on core 1 and core #4 in the past, i dont know what to think of this either, occt seems to work fine tho most the time

p95 also came up with this:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.46875, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
FATAL ERROR: Final result was 00000000, expected: E91EEB5A.

running an all nighter right now on the 4.4ghz just to confirm stability, will post results in the morning. Please help with any suggestions im a big newbie when it comes to overclocking and would love for this thing to be 100% stable.. and not beep everytime i decide to push it past 50 degrees (the temperature spike when this happens also worries me usually it spikes down to about 46/47 degrees and makes me wonder what it could have done to go down as the cpu usage doesnt change)

Leave NB at 2200 or less while getting cpu stable, it isnt easy to get NB stable above that . NB doesnt do much on these its not like the FX chips.

i just thought it was weird it says that the northbridge should be the same as the htlink and if its not the northbridge will automatically change to match it. but it doesnt change it and its still at 2200. I thought this was kinda strange. But i really dont know what to think i woke up this morning and core 4 had failed again.. i think there may be an issue with the 4th core since this one seems to be the one that goes out everytime.. i have also seen core one fail in the past on occt and prime95 but sometime this morning core 6 had also failed, but based on the averages it must have just been a hour or two ago. while the 4th cores average was so low it had to have been an hour or so after i started the test. I did also notice that my max temperature did manage to reach 62 degrees, this may have been when the core had an issue and decided to go. I really dont know. Anyone with this mobo have the same beeping issue at 50 degrees? why would it do this at the same temp everytime but only once?

My northbridge maxed at 71 degrees.

This is all on auto settings with LLC on high (all power saver options + core boost disabled) and multiplier is only thing changed to bump up to 4.4ghz. Why is this so unstable? Why would i even get anywhere close to 60 degrees with 2 fans (one pwm stock blademaster on push and one enermax tb silencer case fan on pull)? I dont even exceed 50 degrees on occt under these circumstances.

edit:

after further review core 4 took a dive at
3:2:33.201 AM
core 6 took a dive at:
11:12:15.541 AM
Test started at:
2:28:4.716 AM

So basically core 6 lasted about 9 hours while core 4 went out about an hour into p95

Attached are results.txt from p95. I tried to attach the hwinfo sensor log but its too big for here theres a link to get it from mediafire:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6wz5yth7yo1uzt7
results.txt 45k .txt file
Any help greatly appreciated

Also just noticed in the log that motherboards cpu sensor reads around 50 degrees at all times.. does occt use the motherboards cpu sensor or the cpu's cpu sensor? hwinfo reports both and the motherboard cpu sensor reads alot smoother and never got above 54

Instead of FX, did you mean to type Phenom 2?

Now attempted to use my MSI 970a-G46 i had recieved from RMA. The board seems to work right compared to the last one they gave me, but the vcore is impossible to make steady. I am able to get occt stable at better temperatures then the 990fxa-ud5. But p95 is failing within 30 seconds of starting everytime. Temperatures staying at much less then the gigabyte but there seems to be no bios option for LLC. Anyone have experience with click bios 2 and this model from MSI? I dont care which motherboard I use I just want one of them stable... So far the ud5 is more stable but temperatures are problematic. Any suggestions?

Still having issues with UD5. I was able to get p95 to not fail at 4.3ghz but unable to keep temps down. it got to 60 degrees in about an hour, I decided to turn it off. I dont understand because OCCT stays under 50 degrees even at 4.4ghz. I want my PC 100% stable at at LEAST 4.4 ghz and I cant even get 4.3 to work. What if anything could be wrong? Should I RMA the board? I really dont know what to think. Is the processor at fault? seems to stay within spec during any other test then p95. I just dont know what to do anymore I am too newbie to figure this out and am about to sell it and start over.

Also when using p95 on the msi 970a-g46, even though the cores start to fail it still stays at much lower temps throughout, OCCT even stays lower on that motherboard at 1.425 vcore fluctuating like crazy.

2 mobos, both got bulldozerd. Unable to stablize on either mad.gif

Maybe it's the chip? My 8320 is rock solid stable at 4.5ghz at 1.4 vcore. It will go up to 4.3ghz at the stock vcore of 1.38 as well.

Thats what I was thinking due to that weird beep when the vcore drops at 50 degrees. But It doesnt do it on the msi board (of course the vcore is always freaking out on that board). So I keep thinking maybe theres something wrong with my UD5? If i send it in for RMA they are going to send me back rev3. Do I want rev3 or should I keep trying to get my rev 1.x to work? Is it possible that its because its rev 1.x? I got the very last one that came stock with the latest bios release right before rev3 was released. Is there some sort of update in rev3 that makes it work better with vishera?

I am so lost I dont know where to turn frown.gif. Wish I had a buddy with a solid rig to test the processor on atleast
