I'll agree that most of today's horror games shouldn't be labeled horror at all. Dead Space, Resident Evil, FEAR, even Silent Hill aren't true horror games imho. They just give you those 'jump in seat' moments every now n' then. A horror game is a game where you literally feel scared and get those goosebumps when you play the game. Moment's like: "ahh, let's play Tomb Raider instead, Amnesia can wait another day...or week." That's the feeling of a horror game, lol.
When I played Amnesia, I honestly had goosebumps when you would see that "thing" (can't remember what they were called) while your walking across a hallway or whatnot. I never got that feeling with Dead Space or Resident Evil, etc. Ohh, the atmosphere and music score definitely added to that.
The Fatal Frame series although a bit cheesy in regards to this 'magical camera' was honestly one of the best horror games I've ever played. I'm not a big fan of paranormal ***** (Paranormal Activity movie scared the living balls out of me btw) so playing through Fatal Frame and hearing foot steps, or creaks on the wooden floor boards, or whispers through my headphones was definitely an experience.
Condemned 2 wasn't so much a horror game as it was a psychological thriller. Lot's of crazy moments in this game. Walking through a hallway with mannequins in a few rooms, you turn around and suddenly all the mannequins are right in your face just staring at you (freaked the ***** out of me!). Their were also these psychotic killers running loose (I believe the game was based in an asylum?) and being that the game was pretty dark, hearing the killers walk around all sneakly then bam! running right up in your face, definitely gives a shock to your system, lol. Oh, their was also this demonic shadowy spirit person following you throughout the game, but that's a whole other story...
I don't remember much about Clive Barker's Jericho except that is was based on some crazy biblical ***** and that the art style to the game was pretty damn disgusting. In a good horror way at least.
And that's me talking about horror games when I got nothing better to do atm.. Edited by R3apR369 - 7/22/13 at 9:05pm
