Sapphire 6850 problems... help please!

Hi guys,

Quite recently, my Sapphire 6850 started artifacting. I've had it for 2 years now. The whole time I've been running it stock with low load temps (55C). Only once last year, I decided to experiment with OC'ing it. Did a few short Furmark runs until I got to 890Mhz Core 1090Mhz Memory. No change was done to voltage. Ran Furmark for 30 minutes, all was good, max temp 69C. Did some gaming with that setting for a couple of days, all good, max temp 59C. After that, reverted back to stock for another year, always keeping my temps in check. To add on to that, I usually game for no more than 1 hour a day, less in most cases. I always keep up with the latest graphic drivers.

Recently received my FX-4170 and started experimenting with OC'ing it. Got some stable settings with 4.5Ghz, 4.6Ghz and 4.8Ghz. Also OC'd my graphics card back to 890Mhz Core 1090Mhz Memory. However, a few minutes into gameplay, my graphics card would start to artifact. Most notably: sharp very thin "static-like" lines horizontally across the screen that get progressively worse. Also, screen would "break", in a sense that the left portion of my screen moves over to the right side, with a clear break down the middle.

Checked temps, slightly higher than I'm used to, and its quite hot weather these days. Using HWinfo64, I have 3 GPU temps ranging from 65C to 70C... could that be hot enough to cause the GPU to artifact under its current OC'd settings? Have I damaged my graphics card? Or can I rest assured and simply back down the clocks a bit till the weather gets cooler again? Mind you, even in this hot weather, I believe a max of 70C still should be fine? Is it something other than the temps?

I'm in a bit of a panic here guys, not sure what to do... please help! I'd be completely baffled to think that I may have damaged my graphics card, even when I was resilient with keeping a moderate OC, low load temps, and no change to voltage.

EDIT: I ran Furmark for a while with a higher setting... 900Mhz Core 1100Mhz Memory... and no problems! Why am I still having problems with my slightly lower clocks in games?

Delete thread, problem solved. It appears the NorthBridge on my 970A-UD3 was causing the system to act up when overclocked. Put it back to default value and all is good.
