Limit bandwidth to certain MAC addresses/Devices?

Thread Starter
Hi,

Is it possible to give certain devices on a network bandwidth priority?

I have a Cisco EA2700 and I'd like to set up my computer (when in use) to have priority on bandwidth and it throttle the other devices on the network.

Thanks

Yes, this is called QoS within your router setup (at 192.168.1.1 by default)

I'll have to look for the QoS.

Do you know if my router has that? Its a Cisco EA2700

It should, I cannot remember where it is exactly within the new linksys router setup page, but it should be there, with an option to prioritize three devices on your network.

Ok cool, I added two to it. I set their priority to High (Which was the highest I could find).

Will that throttle the other devices on my network and guarantee the best speeds to the devices I put on the list?

QoS will give the devices on the list priority, and will get preferential speeds on the network.

Ok, I added my Tablet, and my PC.

There is another couple devices on the network, and last night, Netflix was still buffering MAD slow on my tablet.

Does Line of Sight affect WiFi at all? The other computer is directly in between my tablet and the router in a line. Both devices are hooked up via WiFi.

My tablet is only about 30ft from the router, and only goes through one wall.
