Optimizing graphically modded skyrim

Thread Starter
I wanted to make skyrim as graphically beautiful as possible, but I kind of have a lot of FPS drops now in random places/situations tongue.gif Specifications first:

CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.8GHz
GPU: nvidia gtx 570

Skyrim overhauls:
1. Everything in the game/launcher is maxed out

2. NVidia gui:
- x16 Anisotropic filtering
- ambidient occlusion set to "quality"
- texture filtering set to "high quality"

3. Skyrim ini files:
- shadow resolution set to 4096 (iShadowMapResolution)
- bTreesReceiveShadows set to 1

4. Mods:
- HD DLC textures + 2k textures mod
- alive waters
- better dynamic snow
- enhanced distance terrain
- skyrim flora overhaul basic

O.k., a couple of questions now:

1. Is this safe to run i5 2500k on 4,8 GHz if the vcore reaches 1,42V? (temps don't go above 75c, though after 2-3 hours of playing I always get bsod...)
2. Actually, does it make any difference here between 4,6 and 4,8 GHz?
3. Is there any was to increase FPS, or reduce those FPS drops in my situation? Maybe turning off some things I won't even notice? Are there any?
4. Can I improve graphics more? biggrin.gif

Thanks!

1) Well if you're getting a BSOD, that's not good lol. I recommend running a stress tester if you don't already, like IntelBurnTest for 30 passes or so on maximum.

2) With your setup, I'm pretty sure that makes no difference.

3) You can try lowering the ambient occlusion setting to Performance. It looks slightly worse and has more of that unwanted "glowing" effect, but will give you a nice frame rate boost.

4) Of course. There's a LOT of room for improvement. But your video card will limit you, especially if it's the 1280MB version.

There's no improvement even between 4.8 and 4.0Ghz. Are you getting any stuttering or just low fps?
