Units of measurement and a business' naming convention choices are not exactly the same thing.

True, but both of 'em "conveniently" fool the average consumer and help the company using the data. That's what duckie doesn't understand. It must be nice to be able to just use something to fool someone, and then not bother to tell them that its actually less than it seems like. Its like lying lite.

That's close to the max of usb 2.0, IIRC. Of course the 3.0 drives are eventually going to exceed the max of 2.0, but right now it looks like they could just call 3.0 drives, 2.0 drives. Seeing as how they don't actually exceed the speeds of the 2.0 bus.

So is there any reason for them being called 3.0 flash drives? I must be missing something here.

The MAXIMUM speed you will get from USB 2.0 is 30MB/s. The Maximum theoretical speed of USB 3.0 is 480mbps (60MB/s), however, I have never really seen that.
USB 3.0 maximum speed at 5Gbps comes out to around 650MB/s theoretical. Will it run at that speed? No. Most I have seen so far is around 500MB/s./

If you plug a 3.0 drive into a USB 2.0 port, it will clock itself down to 2.0 speeds.

Still a giant leap from 2.0 speeds. However, I kinda feel like its a bit late. I was cursing USB 2.0 speeds back in 2006.

My RAID5 external enclosures I get about 300MB/s read for them depending on the files I am transferring.
