GTX 780 VS AMD Radeon HD9000 series. In depth help needed.

Ok, this is an important thread i really need some help here.

I was planning on buying a gtx 780. for an entirely new build.
but was waiting for the Maximus VI Formula before buying any of the parts.
I then heard about the Radeon HD 9000 series; being released in October 2013.

So my question is should i buy an AMD HD 9000 card; or a GTX 780.

==============================================================

Keep this in mind when answering.

I was planning on an Nvidia card primarily for CUDA compatibility.
But
I also heard that OpenCL could soon become more widely used in programs. "Forgot where i read this sorry".
In my case i needed CUDA for Cycles rendering engine.(Blender Cycles).

But i'm still a beginner at Blender so i could change my render engine from Cycles to LuxRender (or any other) if the card would be an improvement over the GTX 780.

On another note, the GTX 780 doesn't support (Double-precision floating-point). Would this affect rendering speeds?

Most importantly, i am a gamer so max graphics and high FPS in most current and future games is a must.
Another reason i am thinking of switching to AMD are the new consoles.
Both the Xbox and PS4 are using AMD GPU's so wouldn't most games then be optimised for AMD instead of Nvidia?

I have time both ways i may wait for the HD 9000 series; even if i go with a GTX cause it may lower the price, and give me some benchmarks to compare.
Also i got no idea when the ROG Formula VI will be released.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks all very much.

firstly since you are waiting on the motherboard you have time. also more information on HD 9000 cards will start trickling in August. the cards are expected to launch in late sep to early oct. AMD is mostly going to launch their HD 9970 card before BF4 launches on Oct 29th. there are indications that BF4 will be bundled with next gen high end AMD cards.

also OpenCL performance on AMD HD 7000 series is fantastic. applications like Lux Render run very well on GCN architecture. so AMD should keep the trend going with HD 9000 series.

on LuxRender vs Blender you will have to see which is the better app for your uses. read up on the pros and cons of both. My advice is wait for HD 9970 and pick up either that or GTX 780 based on perf in gaming and the apps you want. thumb.gif

Thanks that's some great advice.

I'll be testing LuxRender on my bros AMD card.

Thank you very much.
