just keep the original, it's a good cooler already. With stock gigabyte cooler u should be able to cool 1200 core properly

I have Icy Vision A to replace the reference fan and max temps playing is 53C!! so I would recommend it before the artic one. With the fan of gigabyte i think is more than enough.

I wouldn't bother changing the stock cooler. If you got a late reversion of the gigabyte ghz 7970 "boost card" it's voltage locked. So no point in investing extra cooling when your unlikely to squeeze any more performance out of it.

I have a noisy reference Sapphire 7970, which is a beast of a card but the stock cooler is ****. I've been considering the accelero xtreme 7970 but it seems to be sold out just about everywhere. I see that the Icy Vision A is not technically for 7970s, did you get a shim or something for your 7970? How do you like it as a cooler?

There are 2 versions of the Icy Vision, one is a generic cooler, and the other has the raised base for 7950/7970 cards. link
