Slow Raptor

Thread Starter
I have 2 150g raptors in RAID 0 and for about a week, it was crazy fast. Now it seems to be slow as hell during startup. My Win XP boot times are just fine, but once windows is loaded, applications take FOREVER to load. It took me 24 seconds just to load firefox (very slow compared to the 2-3 seconds it normally takes right after I start windows). I have used 1 of these raptors just fine for several months and I bought the other one recently to setup my RAID array (yes, I know that technically RAID 0 isn't RAID ). During bootup at least one (maybe both, it is rather loud) hard drives make clicking sounds for the duration of this "lag." At first, I had some RAM in there that I knew was defective (still sort-of worked) that I was just testing and it worked fine other than these slow loads. Then I swapped back to my normal 2gb of good RAM and it was fine for 2 days, but now I am back to square one! What's the deal? I'd really like to avoid a reformat if possible since I had to do one not long ago and I am just getting my computer back to its normal self.

Haha.... slow raptor - sounds like such a oxymoron!

Have you ran all spyware/antivirus software on that machine? Spyware and viruses can eat up a LOT of system resources. Otherwise, have you tried defragging the HDs?

Yeah agreed with the spyware/virus comment. My PC isnt BLAZING fast.... but it's prety damn quick. I contracted a lil booboo via my little brothers using my computer. Ran a few scans...removed the issues and I was back up and running.

Best of luck

Heh, yah, I thought the same thing when I posted it.

I ran my zone alarm security suite anti-virus+anti-spyware removal as well as ad aware. No luck.
