PWM Fan problem - Random Speed Fluctuations

I have just installed an Arctic Accelero cooler on my GTX 780 and the PWM fans on the cooler are speeding up and slowing down randomly.

Even when the fan speed is set manually or an auto, the fans seem to have a mind of their own. For example, the manual speed will show, say, a constant 50%, in EVGA Precision but the tachometer will show wild variations from the minimum to the maximum at random. I can also hear the fans spin up and down.

I have reinstalled EVGA precision thinking this might be the problem, but this had no effect. The stock cooler did not have this problem and ran perfectly. It looks like a problem with the PWM circuit in the Arctic fans. Any other suggestions? Or should I just RMA the cooler?

if it doesn't do it with the stock fan then its definitely the fan on your Accelero.

although off topic, could you take a photo of the fan label on your stock cooler? i just want to see what fan nvidia uses for their stock cooler.

Found the problem:

it says the stock fan uses Voltage+PWM combination control which most fans don't support.

Thanks, I juist reinstalled the stock cooler and it definitely doesn't have this problem so the accelero fan is the culprit.

I have the EVGA 780 with the ACX cooler, so can't provide info on the stock cooler.

Often removing the stock cover and fans and attaching 2x 120mm fans to fans of cooler gives much quieter and cooler temps.

This is a VTX3D Radeon HD 7950 X-Edition V3 with cover removed and 2x Arctic F12 TC Case Fans attached with zip-ties. Temps were 70c; now 50-60c, ultra settings, 60fps unless particularly detailed cut scenes.. normally can't hear it and way quieter when gaming. Arctic F12 TC Case fans are automatically temperature controlled. Sensor is between cooler and GPU board.

Thanks. That's odd because the Arctic website says this cooler is compatible with the 780. I assume the Titan is similar, although I am using a Prolimatech MK-26 with that and a couple of Noctua pwm fans without problem. This may be another hint to start liquid coolng.
