you should fill out your rig builder and maybe get some help with your overclock

I voted for 6 cores / 12 threads by the way.

Well 99% of games right now use a max of 4 cores, so I would say 5 Cores @ 4.6GHz.

And put your rig in your sig my friend! Tutorial in my sig.

I would choose a whole core over a measly 200mhz difference.
An extra core will come in handy if you have multiple monitors.
Game on 1 monitor, work and watch movies on another.

I would run on all the cores personally. After all you did pay for them, but games so far don't use them all. My vote is still all cores on.

For gaming?
No way.

5 cores; dedicate one for the system/media player, etc.
Barely any games utilize 4 cores and chances you will end up bottlenecked by your CPU frequency are huge. There are SO MANY games that feast on frequency it's even sad.
For example, Skyrim.
Also, I recently downloaded RIFT - absolute maximum preset, my GPU downclocks to ~850MHz and does not get utilized over 60% of the time; however my CPU has two threads pegged at 100%. Averaging 40FPS on 4.5GHz.

Really depends on what you play.
So far the games i've seen use all 6 of me cores.
that is,
Neverwinter, NFS:Undercover, BF3, BF:BC2, Dirt3
The only exception that doesn't use any of the logical threads is Undercover

Can't you just clock your cores asymmetrically? As in clock 5 cores at 4.6, then leave the bad core at close to idle or at stock speed, whatever you choose.

I can do that on my haswell board, can't imagine why it wouldn't work for you.

BTW you should add "Other" into the poll biggrin.gif
