Using a sound card or a DAC?

What are the benefits of each using each one?

Would using a DAC give you better quality or would a sound card work better? Thanks

sound card is a DAC

DACs(digital to analog converter) are not exclusive to sound production ether, skewed terms to sound superior for audio guys

There is no simple answer to this.

It depends on a wide range of things, we need more info about your intended use, the equipment you already have and how much money you have to spend.

Well right now I'm using On-Board sound from my ASRock Z75 Pro3. My headphones are Voda LP Crossfades. I use them for music and gaming, yes I know they are not made for gaming also they are not amazingly good. I don't want to spend more than $40 on a DAC or sound card.

asus xonar DG is a good buy on the cheap

not sure what external cards on budget that i can recommend but IMO spend more on the headphones / speakers first
