Need some help from the Graphics cards guys. GTX760 4GB VS GTX770 2GB

Hey guys, I need some help. After many hours of searching online, on multiple different forums, I've come here.

From what I can tell, there seems to be many forums discussing 2gb vs 4gb VRAM, and nobody seems to know definitively... it's all speculation.

So. I purchased a GTX760 4GB card from newegg the other day (still being shipped to my house), you know... pretty decent bang for the buck. Then I started looking at the GTX 770's... seems like I can get a 2GB GTX770 for about $130 more... and it seems to be a pretty significant horsepower upgrade.

so these are the two cards I'm looking at - the gtx 760 (4GB) vs the gtx770 (2GB).

I play ARMA 2 & 3, BF3 (& soon 4)... and other games similar.

I like the price and specs of the GTX760 I purchased. I like how I could spend another $130 (or so) and jump into the 770's.... BUT, is it worth it to keep the 760 with more VRAM?

I've seen threads, with people saying "no games on the market use more than 2GB of VRAM", and responses to those saying the exact opposite.

so I just wanted a little more feedback from some people who know the current video cards better than I do.

thank you!!

To throw it out there, I have two monitors. I only use one to display the game @ 1920x1080 while the secondary monitor is showing internet browsers, or temp software, or whatever... basically my desktop.

I don't really have any interest in doing the "surround" thing at this point in time... but I would like the game to look good, and to play flawlessly..

thanks again!

I'm inclined to think that the better GPU of the GTX770 is worth more than the lower RAM might negate, at your resolution, and the GTX760 is somewhere in between the 660ti and 670 performance wise where as the GTX770 is like a gtx680 on steroids. Once both are overclocked, the GTX770 will stretch its legs a fair bit further - probably a good 15% or so.

My concern is that the 760 will not have the GPU power to make use of 4gb without being SLI'd, though if that is a potential in future, then go that route for the longer term application.

If you're only going to stick with one GPU for the time being, I would hedge bets that you'll suffice on 2gb and appreciate the extra horsepower until you find yourself needing to upgrade again.

It's hard to know how much VRAM will be enough once next-gen console ports flood the market, but my guess is that the 2gb cards will be at their limit but still working (albeit without all kinds of MSAA, though FXAA and the like will be standard from here on out requiring significantly less memory and horsepower). I would bet that 3gb is optimum and 4gb a relative "overkill" looking forward, only being used by ultra high-res texture mods and ultra-high AA settings which would need more GPU horsepower to run.

TL,DR:

If you intend to SLI in future, go for the 4gb card. If not, stick with the 2gb until you need to upgrade again. You will be adjusting settings eventually with either card in single mode, but SLI 4gb 760's should last very well for a number years.

thank you for the reply. The 770 should be a giant upgrade from what I currently have.... we'll see... I'm going to think on it some more....

I would go with 7970 because it has 3gb vram and performance is on par with 770gtx and costs a little less
