Motherboard Died on Family Computer, Possible HTPC?

Thread Starter
So the desktop that the family uses has been BSOD'ing like crazy. I've finally narrowed it down to the motherboard going bad. So we're interested in using the old parts from this build to turn it into an HTPC for the spare TV in the basement. All other components are working just. The computer was housing an Athlon II x3 450 with a HD4850. I know these parts would be just fine for playing files, but what I want to know is if the current generation of APUs are actually worth investing over what I already have (in the long term)? I feel like what I have is already overkill. Aside from that, any recommendations for a Micro-ATX board and a case that can house the 4850?

HTPC's require shockingly low powered hardware to run very well. If you were going to buy new, I'd say APU every time. If you are replacing a mobo instead of buying an APU....then by all means just replace the mobo. No reason to replace anything else.
