To be frank, most "modern" games look like they are from 2005 (all the stuff, for example, running on Soruce and Unreal 3 engines) with only few dragging themselves as far as 2007 (Crysis 1 level). From the top of my head cant remember any recent game which I have had which would have looked better than Crysis (the first one) - ofc its subjective. I would blame sticking to the lowest common denominator, insisting on 32 bit compatibility and ofc as usual also stick some blame to the consoles. That out of the way, the games look pretty damn nice if you ask me, even on the relatively venerable source and unreal 3 engines. Then again I rarely play to gawk at the visuals - I play to have fun and gawking at the visuals wears out relatively fast in that regard if there is no solid game play or at the very least interesting story-line under the hood.
I dont have BF3, Crysis 3 nor Metro Last light so cant comment on these, but I do have Crysis 1 and 2, Metro 2033 from the latest games which are usually considered graphically intensive.
