IMHO: Noctua NF-F12 is overrated

i just bought an h80i, sp120 pwm performance, and noctua nf-f12.

at 1400rpm they both have the same noise level, the sp12 cools 0.2C better, and the best of all i can ramp up the sp120 to 2000rpm if needed, running the sp120 to that rpm exceeds the performance of nf-f12 by 3C.

the reason why they think that the nf-f12 is silent is because it only runs at 1500rpm, i want to hear how loud this thing will be when overvolted and run at 2000rpm.

so yeah, i'm tossing this nf-f12 in the trash bin, it's a garbage.

They are overpriced but they are still excellent fans.

High pressure, low noise, undervolt without issues, PWM with no issues, long life.

High pressure low noise? The sp120 performs similarly at the same rpm, the percieved noise is also the same.

Why would you undervolt a pwm fan? Pwm no issue? What can be a possible issue with pwm?

Long life maybe, but that is it.

Noctua NF-F12 is overrated - when they use the same test bed for all heat sink tests then they are truly comparable.

But if one is using a Noctua NF-F12 in their case and have x amount of fans then different results will appear from other users makes no real comparison.

What I am trying too say is it maybe garbage in your case but another persons, it maybe the bees knees, brilliant thumb.gif

With Noctua in general they are quieter.

Rather have a few degrees up than down, listening to a sound tunnel. Do I care if if my system at idle is 34 deg than instead 28?

OC testing is different but who runs 100% 24/7 thumb.gif

No undervolt whine, no PWM whine and it doesn't kill the fan. I'm not arguing against your points other than the comment that they are garbage. They are very good fans, but they are overpriced.

Imho the nf-f12 are only overrated as far as the noise at maximum rpms operations is concerned and this comes from a Noctua fan/cooling systems admirer and owner (NOT a fanboy).

I know that the terms "noisy" and "silent" are relative since manufacturers ratings usually don't say much but the F12s even at around 9V can be "noisy" compared to my P12s, S12s and P14s.

Good thing for me about the Noctua fans is that i really like their sound profile (not this bloody high pitch whining) no matter what so while for my tastes the F12s are not silent (x4 push pull on my H100i, open bench case so everything is exposed) i could have them at full rpms all day long without complaining much but on the other hand i could take a nap with four P12s running at max rpms 2 feet away from me .

Overpriced? Sure, i'd love to had the chance to buy every single Noctua fan i own (and i own plenty of them) half price.
