RamDisks are fun for virtual machines as well. Want to install a new OS to play with? Use VirtualBox and put the virtual drive file on a RAMDisk. It can make your SSD feel slow even with VB's overhead.

Could always have used Gavottes Ramdisk and is 100% free. Been using it without issue for all programs that use a lot of Disc I/O and when I was using Windows XP-32bit I would use it to access the extra ram area (768mb in this case) for use as pagefile/swap with IMDisk as well. It would be wise to setup a batchfile in the group policies startup scripts to automate the setting up of any programs you want run from it. It was sad though - the 4gb limit despite PAE on 32bit client versions of windows is purely an artificial limitation added by Microsoft.

Ever since then I've been using Server 2003 32bit to access all 8gb normally and just allocate 32mb to those few programs including my Fold Farm for all 4 cores. I've found ramdisks to be essential for Virtual Machines due to the heavy I/O to a single file, creating a lot of temp space when moving stuff around on full drives, etc.
