It is an incredibly difficult field to innovate in and will need a paradigm shift to make new leaps forward. You want to become a billionaire, reinvent the battery with more power density per mass than is currently being achieved.

I see...

But in my mind, it's still apples to oranges.

Yeah, considering an ARM SoC costs around $15 to $40 dollars and the Intels are basically multiply the cost of the ARM by 15.

Note how you can buy a Raspberry Pi for $29? Think we'll see a Haswell ULV board + SoC for $29?

honestly till they break it down to watt/amps used per hour there is not much of a real comparison

sure apple products last longer because they have a BIGGER battery and there is the OS efficiency as well. too many variables there to compare how haswell does to ivy equivalent

and to skew the benchmark more bootcamp dont exactly allow the OS to pass the power state down IIRC for lower power usage

if its all about run time with typical tablet work load then the acer iconia w510 with battery dock will ace it at 18 hours run time and still have a smaller combined battery then the laptops they are comparing with

Exactly this.... battery densities are reaching a point where it is getting dangerous. As we store more power in smaller space, the more potential damage from an unregulated discharge.... aka explosion.

Building a better battery is not simply stick more energy into something.... you have consider operating temperatures, discharge rate, shelf stability, recharge times, etc. Solving all these is NOT easy.
Once again...
