Except games DO DEGRADE IN VALUE. They are worth less the longer they have been out on the market.

Are you going to pay $50 to buy Doom today? No, it's not worth it, it's value has declined. Just because an item does not deteriorate does NOT mean the value doesn't decrease because it does decrease.

What should determine this value is whatever people are willing to pay....i.e. second hand market of used games. And you better bet valve and the dev will get a cut just like how the market place works now. I don't see anything wrong with second hand games, especially if the devs and steam are getting a cut.

they conflict with the steam sales and what if someone buys a game on a sale worth 3 bucks and once the sale is over they sell it for $15 and that guy could have bought 5 copies so it doesn''t equal out.

Chances are the steam sales will go bye bye. But then again with cheap "used" games it won't really matter.

THAT IS NOT DEGRADING! How many hundreds of times does this need to be spelled out in this thread!?

You are talking about depreciation, not degradation. As long as the used Steam game is $0.01 cheaper than the new copy, it can be 400 years old, and it will still work exactly bit-for-bit the same as a new copy, and there will be no objective reason to ever buy new.

Actually, what he stated was a fact, not an opinion. Can you really argue that a new and "used" digital game are different? What would be a reason to pay more for a new copy?

Obviously that's different, and what games would turn into if resale is allowed.

What about single player games or games without online passes?

The game is worth LESS over time. Therefore the VALUE has degraded, declined, deteriorated, diminished, been reduced, etc. Not the product CONDITION, the VALUE. It doesn't really matter which term I use, they mean the same thing.

Yes the CONDITION may not degrade but the VALUE does. Yes, it means the same thing as depreciation. Don't know why you think I said something else. You seem to think I meant the condition which I obviously did not. Actually reading the post instead of seeing the word "degraded" and then coming to an instant conclusion would have helped you from creating a post that doesn't relate to what I said as I never said anything about the condition degrading.
