System help - Won't boot

So I decided to upgrade my case and switch to water cooling. Before doing any of this everything worked flawlessly.

Here is what I have:

AMD 1100T
Asus EVO 790XT
Mushkin Enhanced Ridgelines
Cooler Master Stacker 830
Antec 620 h20
OCZ 600W Modular ( PC Power and Cooling version )

Before installing this into my new setup I had no problems at all. Now after getting the water cooler on and the mobo installed into the case the computer want turn my LCD on and NONE of my USB components will turn on. I even tried booting with one stick of ram...

The only thing I can possibly think of is when I first turned the computer on I noticed a small smoke odor(coming from the pump area or PSU) its almost as if something was about to catch on fire. My first though was it was probably the cheap H20 unit I bought so I threw on my old tuniq tower... still no boot.

I checked each and every cord going into the motherboard, all looks fine. Case fans turn on and light up as they should, and the motherboards green light even comes on. All caps on the motherboard appear to be fine, and meter correctly.

I'm stumped right now, literally 5 hours ago this thing was running fine.

First thought to me would be the PSU. but idk. Any suggestions?

*tried three different power supplies* No luck.

Is there any power showing anywhere?

Everything turns on as it should. CPU fan turns on and case fans. No display on the LCD and none of my peripherals turn on. I've tried two CPU's now also.

If you are saying you have tried three different PSU's and a couple of different CPU's all with the same result.

I think the answer is probably going to be the Motherboard. But before we jump to conclusions, have you cleared the CMOS? and also tried a different video card?

I have cleared the CMOS, but have not tried any other GPU. I find it weird that transfering it from one case to another caused all of this. I use static wrist straps, and always use a flat hard surface so I dont see how it shorted out.

I swear if its something simple I am going to stab myself with a plastic knife. Ya, Its aggrivating me that much.

But I think your right, everything points to the motherboard....

Any other suggestions?

I would of suggested checking all the power cables, especially the 4pin ATX to the CPU, but you have changed three PSU's thinking.gif

This one time I done a build with a few drinks in me, had near identical problems as you, the next morning I found the PCiE 4pin cable in the MB 4pin ATX socket doh.gif

Maybe just sit back and run through everything as you installed it, step by step, then if nothing else move on to the dreaded thought.

Well guys, I guess it pays off to be a horder of all my old computer junk. I dug up a old 8600GT threw it into my htpc, worked fine, Threw it into the new build and same crap is happening.

So far I have done this -

- Un-assembled the PC and put it on a work bench
- Tested 3 different power supplies (One of which I found out was done, the other two I know work)
- Tested two processors. AMD 550BE, and a AMD 1100T
- Double checked to make sure the system was grounded ( NO WAY its not grounded. It is fully assembled on a tray from my Stacker 830. It has fully grounded pins and proper screws )
- Tried 2 sets of memory. Tested one stick at a time, in each slot. ( Ya I went that far )

Its the motherboard, what else could it be! I'll be trying out a new 990FX board.

Thanks for your help ginger_nuts. You presented me with some options that I did not think of and I appreciate that!
