PCI to PCIe Question

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I bought a HT Omega | Claro II, which is this: http://www.htomega.com/claro2.html.

It uses a PCI Chipest.

My motherboard is an Asus Rampage IV Extreme, which is this: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_EXTREME/#specifications
It only supports PCIe.

I have learned my lesson and I'm asking for your advice, please assist me,

If I buy this: http://www.misco.co.uk/Product/173033/StarTech-com-PCI-to-PCI-Express-Adapter-Card

Or this: http://www.misco.co.uk/product/153768/StarTech-com-PCI-Express-to-PCI-Adapter-Card-PCIe-to-PCI-Converter-Adapter-with-Low-Profile-Half-Height-Bracket

Will I be able to use it on my system or not?

If you have any other ideas than the adapter one, or even the right adapter, please do share them, thank you.

The second adapter is what you want, as the first is a pci to pcie adapter. As far as using such adapter, Ive had zero experience.

Yea second one, but also never had to use it.

You could always just sell your Claro II and get a PCI-E card (I have the eClaro, love it), or an external DAC.

Without a doubt PCIe 4x has enough bandwidth but will it fit within your case?

Will the quality of the sound drop, since it's only an adapter, will it really fit in my PCIe slot?

As I see the adapter's end is REALLY small against the PCIe slot that I have,

I'm a beginner in these parts of the motherboard, please advise me :-)

Also thank you to EVERYONE, seriously thank you for replying back to me.

My case is an ultra tower, it should fit well, is what I think Mr.Legonut. ^_^

I don't want and I can't sell it, but thanks for suggesting that kind of option to me candy_van :-)

And I'm also inexperienced with these kind of adapters, thank you all for your reply's.

Any kind of obvious or non-obvious information regarding this adapter, how to install it, will it fit the motherboard or any,

any kind of information about the whole thing, please, please share them with me as i'm grateful for what you share.

Thanks.

It will fit into any PCI-e slot, and you can then plug a std PCI device into it.
By the looks of it, you'll also need to power it with a molex from your PSU.

It looks like it will ad an inch or so to how far out your card will be off the board so just take a look inside your case and make sure you've got some wiggle room.

Aside from that the only other thing I'd imagine might be a bit of an issue is how stable the card will be in there w/ the adapter.
Could be a bit floppy but then again it's not like you'll be shaking your case around either.

Brilliant, very valuable info and advice, thank you candy_van. ^_^

Anyone thinks that this adapter will reduce the sound quality of the Audio Card?

Or the adapter actually has more power than what the card requires or produces,
so it's more than enough and it will do great instead?
