Choosing the proper radiator - Help needed

Thread Starter
Looking to water cool the CPU in my Corsair 550d. I have the option to run a 45mm thick 240mm radiator(Alphacool XT45 slightly offset to clear the mobo) or a 30mm thick 280mm radiator(such as a black ice stealth or swiftech MCRx40).

I am looking for opinions/proof of which radiator will be more efficient. Thanks!

well I can tell you that the Alphacool XT45 will be a little bit better for your loop but those 2 radiators pretty much go head to head so there is really no way for one of those to win so the final choice is yours! and what ever that choice is , is the choice that allot of us face ! \

I would go with the thicker 240 rad. Better fan selection in 120mm size.

I would get the XT45 with 2xAP15s. With one of the best performing rad and best performing fans is the only choice!

I agree with what everyone has been saying, they are going to perform similar but 240 has a better choice of fans so it wins.

I really appreciate all the responses. It helps me confirm my original idea of using the 240mm radiator.

I am currently using Akasa Apache fans(black) throughout my case. Not many people use these fans but they are truly great. Whisper quiet(which is very important for my build) with no random bearing/resonance issues, reguardless if mounted virtically or horizontally, and move a quality amount of air at all speeds. From what I have read, they should perform well when paired with a radiator(decent static pressure). If anyone has used these fans on a radiator please let me know how they performed.

The main reason I chose this fans was to use my mobo's cpu fan PWM headers with a fan splitter. Provides nice performance during any temperature situation and takes care of my specific needs.
