Title says It all..just wondering because the two options are around the same price... $250 which I'm aiming for.

I'm lowering my budget a bit incase I can't come up with the funds I expected..So Im only going to get 1 gig of DDR800 and then get another in the very near future sinces It much easier to upgrade RAM.

I really dont think I should have even put the Ram choice on there..People Im going to be upgrading to 2gigs RAM ASAP its a matter of less than a month.

AND dont you think it better to upgrade than to REPLACE in this case..which I would be If I got the RAM over a good graphics card...then at that point the 7950GT would be costing me $370 including the price of the 7600GT that I would replace.

Get the single card (7950GT), the SLI will really only make a difference if your running a higher resolution than you are currently.

^^Even then it wont make much of a difference as the 7950GT is far superior to two 7600GT's any day of the week. This is another example of lower end SLi/CF not being the better option.

I ran the BFG 7950GX2 (1GB) for 6 months.. it SMOKES.

I just purchased a second XFX 7900GTX 512 to go with one I already had, and in SLI mod they are faster than the 7950GX2. (Not surprising)

But the 7950 is essentially 2 7900 boards, but with a reduced speed, (For cooling purposes).

If it were me, I would adjust my budget as such that it's either the 7950GT, OR, a 7900GTX.. my wife ran a 7600 for a short time, and it really isnt in the same class. It starts with a 7000 series number, but thats misleading in a lot of ways.

Depending on your needs, and power supply, a 7900 might even be better suited for your needs, the 7950GX2 (I know, not the one you want, but the one I know), is a power sucking monkey.. and unless you are running 1900X1200 you wont really see a performance increase over a 7900GTX.

The 7950GX2 is more powerful than the 7950GT, so I think the differences between the 7900GTX and the 7950GT would be even less. And the 7900 has a faster clock and faster memory.

Just a thought, I know the single 7900GTX costs more than the 7950GT does.. but check the speeds! Really depends on your needs. If oyu are looking for a good, fast card, the GT is great. If oyu are looking for balls out performance in serious gaming, the GTX or even GX2 could be a better option for you

Actually very very good advice.. It was hard to dump cash for the extra 7900GTX knowing that for a few bucks more, I could get an 8 series card.

But in my case, when the 8 series finally sells me (I hate being on the bleeding edge, I'll wait till the Super Duper bugfree one hits market).. then I just transfer my exisiting stuff to the Wife. So it's not like I would be losing my cards..

But yeah, figure 90 - 120 days and the affordable 8 series hits, which should smoke existing 7 series stuff fairly well, even in the budget models, which arent here yet.

You could do all of your other upgrades, and keep the 7600 for now, and start budgeting for a GPU upgrade, and be ready for it when the price drop happens. Best of both worlds..
