Halo is not on a single system. Halo is on two platforms, the Xbox and the PC, and on three "systems", the Xbox, the Xbox 360 and the PC.

The fact remains that Halo, as a FPS for what it's most popular, is a Xbox One exclusives.

Yes, Halo 1 and 2 came out on PC and the original Xbox but those are the only ones. Yes the PC got a RTS but I hardly think that counts when compared to what makes Halo popular.

1 on PC in '03, 2 on a very shoddy Vista port in '07 in a desperate attempt to get gamers to upgrade... No, that's only a single platform for all intents and purposes. I'm not sure that Bungie can outdo Halo ever. That will be their legacy. (It's a video game that's getting a TV SHOW! If that isn't success, I don't know what is.)

To express my personal opinion on the topic itself:

I do not think that Destiny will (on the Xbox 360) surpass Halo in game sales in total player percentage, however, I do think that Destiny will surpass Halo in its total sales number, simply because a lot more people own an Xbox 360 today.

I am very sure that concerning the quality of the game, Destiny (at least the first part) will not surpass Halo. It just copies too much from Call of Duty (I say that the argument "every game today does it" does not count, especially because Destiny is a game from Bungie (whatever this may mean nowadays, though, especially after Bungie released Halo Reach)).

I have to say that I do not know why so many people apparently think that Halo 2 for Windows Vista is a bad port. The only thing that I would say is worse than in the Xbox version is the matchmaking system (which, by the way, is not being supported by Microsoft on both platforms anymore). Halo 2 for the Xbox had playlists, a skill-based ranking system and supported only locally hosted games. The matchmaking system of Halo 2 for Windows Vista has none of the mentioned features and only supports dedicated servers (which are not bad for online multiplayer in general but do not work very well for a Halo game).

They made close to zero effort with the port. At least in GTA IV it says, "Press 'E' to use." In Halo 2: Vista, it says "Hold X to use," and shows the symbol for the Xbox button, not the keyboard key.

In my opinion, even though it is actually a PC game, Halo 2 for Windows Vista should only be played with an Xbox 360 controller, because only then the player is provided with the original gameplay experience (which I think is important for a Halo game).
