Been out of the scene for years, brand new build questions.

Hey OCN, at one point I was putting together my latest build, but that was back in 2008. Besides one or two updates I've had the same pc since then and its finally on its last legs and I'm looking for a completely new rig.

Looking for some suggestions on what components are worthy of getting, I haven't had my eye on the new hardware that has come out for a long time so I have no idea what is strongly reccommended nowerdays. My price range is pretty high, about £1600 tops and I'm looking for a build that will last me years with little to no upgrading required.

Heres a list of parts I'm looking to buy right now;

I didn't include a case but I have a Corsair 650D that I'll likely continue using, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Are you going to be RAIDing those drives, or standalone? I've also never been a an of air cooling, even though it's safe, I hate the idea of something so large hanging off my mobo. And when are you pulling the trigger? I only ask because both AMD and Nvidia are coming out with new tech at the end of this year. Though there's always new stuff around the corner I suppose.

Raid 0 on the mechanical drives, operating system on the SSD.

In about a week's time, unless there is groundbreaking hardware to be released within the month I'd rather just buy my build asap and be done with it.

IB-E is just around the corner. If you want it to last awhile you probally should get a 6 ccore processor

My understanding is that when new hardware is released its prices are remarkably high, as would be expected of an enthusiast series. So it depends on their cost when they are released and if they will require a larger budget, which I don't want to consider.

I'll be using it for general computing, benchmarking and gaming. I spend a lot of time on my computer and it should be built to last, as well as be capable for me to not worry about its performance.
