Home theater setup needs more volume now?

When i first got my 5.1 setup a few months ago everything was perfect. But now i need a much higher volume when using it, at night time when watching things in bed i always had the volume on around -33 (the range goes from -80 to +12 in 0.5 steps ) and drop it down to -37.5 when i try to sleep. Well now some shows i need up to -20 and all other shows around -25 which if you include the .5 steps is +35 extra volume steps. Having ocd its killing me needing a completely different number than i needed for the other 3 months.
I should game.

My Onkyo I am all over the place with my sound. I sometimes get down to about -18 not sure what it goes to I know in the pos numbers. Depends on what I am watching. I wouldn't worry about it. you have plenty of volume left.

everything needs a different volume now depending on genre of show hd or sd and completely different again on pc and playing music whereas before everything was basically 2 values

IDK. Maybe, something else got changed somewhere and you are just unaware of the change. I do know , I have a ton of content and it's levels are up and down. Even at my old mans house changing channels on his cable box is up and down with his bose system. (not a fan of bose over priced junk) Maybe, you always had to make adjustments and your just gone crazy or you just didn't notice the level changes. lol biggrin.gif I think they are normal and nothing to worry about. Here is something to think about, are you using a cable box for content? If so, they have an internal master volume, maybe it got turned down?
