$250 to $300 pc for college *NO Gaming

Thread Starter
Hello I'm going to be building a PC for a family member whose is going into college. So I need heklp picking parts for a PC that will be used for Web browsing and using Microsoft Office Suite.

I figured Intel would be the best bet in terms of this kind of work (no offense to AMD fans).

I already have a 380 Watt power supply.

Thanks

For computers that are on a budget, this is really useful. You also don't need a GPU, of course.

Maybe you could start with something like a Pentium G2020 on a B75 board?
There's Sandy/Ivy Bridge Celeron and Pentium CPU's in the $50-$80 range for the LGA1155 platform, H61, H77 and B75 boards seem to be on the cheaper side too. You should be able to keep everything else under $300 if you stick with integrated graphics, or a second hand dedicated gpu.
All depends where you're buying from and availability too.

Why not buy a laptop for college? Would be easier taking notes and since the person will not be gaming there really isn't a need for a desktop.
