need help booting into osx

Thread Starter
Friend has a recent iMac (bought in 2012) and tried using bootcamp to install windows 7. During installation of windows gave error about corrupted data on install disc. We ejected disc to burn another but are having trouble getting back into his mac os. When we restart computer its sits at white screen for a min then goes to blank black screen but never boots into any os. We are thinking that its trying to boot into the windows partition that didnt install right so it just sits there. Need to find some way to change boot order to get back into the mac os but not really sure how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Startup Manager: How to select a startup volume
The Startup Manager allows you to choose the startup volume available to your Mac.

A "startup volume" is a disk or partition of a disk that contains a usable operating system. Startup Manager allows you to choose the startup volume on the fly, by simply holding down the Option key while the computer is starting up.

How to choose the startup volume
Follow these steps:

Turn on, or restart, your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option key. After a few seconds, the Startup Manager should appear. The Startup Manager scans for available available volumes.

Use the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard to select the volume you would like to use.
Press the Return key on your keyboard to start up the computer from the volume you selected.
Additional Information

You can press the Eject key on the keyboard to eject DVD media. Inserting a startup DVD will add that DVD to the list of startup volumes (as in the image above). You can also attach FireWire or USB external hard drives to add to the list of startup volumes.

This startup volume selection is temporary. To set the default startup volume for your Mac after your computer is running, open System Preferences and choose Startup Disk from the View menu (in Mac OS X) or open the Boot Camp control panel (in Windows).

Neither seems to be doing anything, or any other key combos we find saying they work. Just goes straight to black screen.

He has the wireless keyboard so maybe it isnt being recognized fast enough and whatever keys we press do go through. Going to try a different keyboard

Use a wired keyboard. A PC one will work too. Also stick the original install media in there too. See if it will boot to a disc instead. Since it was 2012 model there might not be install media so hold Command + R and that will get you to the recovery partition. You can use Disk Utility from there and see what is happening.

Do as kyle says, I had to restore macos on an old 2005 G5 computer but the keyboard was damaged, had to use another one via usb.

Forgot to mention that if using a PC keyboard, the Windows key takes the place of the Apple/Command key. Just for a heads up.

Still nothing. Tried 2 other keyboards, wired windows and wired mac, but nothing happened. Tried in different usbs for both but still goes to black screen. It will boot from a CD so maybe use Linux live disk to wipe the windows partition?

FIxed it by deleting windows partition. Thanks for the help.
