Power Color 7950 CrossfireX (269$ each)

Thread Starter
Ok guys, I'm typing this as quickly as I can as I gotta leave for work. There's currently a promo for a reference PowerColor 7950 for 269$. I also get the ''AMD never settle bundle'' with Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3 and Far Cry Blood Dragon. I currently have a GTX 670 with only 2GB and as I plan to go beyond 1440p in the near future, I feel that 2GB won't cut it. I also heavily mod Skyrim and plan on modding GTA V.

This seems like a great price and it ends today. Also, considering I'm buying two cards, should I get the bundle twice? That would make it an even better value, I could sell the games for a decent price and the cards are dirt cheap. The promo ends today so I really need to act quickly. Buyer's pressure FTW!!!

That deal is awesome and no, they can't include Tomb Raider. I try to take the deal you posted but I end up paying 50$ for shipping alone.

Do you guys have any advice before I buy them? A cooler I should buy? Measures I should take?

no, pick the slowest delivery method. i did and got to my place the next day. the games key codes will be emailed to you the moment the card ships.

might get them tax free, too. do not forget the rebate. TR is still selling for what . . . $15?

Alright, I bit. Got them both for 640$ CAD after taxes. With the rebates it's gonna go down to 580 and if I sell the 8 games, I could easily make a good 120$ which would bring down the total cost to 460$ or 230$ per card. This is a great deal. They also offered Tomb Raider so I'll be receiving 2 free codes for Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry Blood Dragon.

congrats, I'd say keep one of the Tomb Raider games if you don't have it already, it's an awesome game, the rest are just meh,
FarCry BD is just crazy stupid game, it's funny and you'll like it if you are 80s kid like me, others i dont think they will enjoy it as much, and the only thing I liked about bio shock is the the girls angry look, she have the same look as my GF biggrin.gif

and yeah welcome to the Red Team

Thanks a lot. I'll be selling my 670 in a few days. So, considering I got a reference model and I've never CFX before, should I buy something like a cooler? Will the stock fans do the trick for CFX? Or will the cards run too hot. I'd like to set up everything before sending my 670.

Also, do you guys think I should wait for the drivers to be released in a few days before setting everything up? By the looks of it, I'll receive the cards today.

Juub, you are coming from a nvidia card, so i highly recommend you read this first . . .

http://www.overclock.net/t/1265543/the-amd-how-to-thread

second, get one card going first before adding the other. i mean test to make sure one card is working well by playing games and running benches before adding the other. compare results after crossfiring.

i had my 7950 for like a year before i bought my 7970 and did crossfire. all i had to do was shut down my system installed/added the 7970 and went straight to CCC to enable crossfire. tested BF3, C3 and C2.

edit: normally you want the faster (oc's higher - if you will oc) as the primary card.2cents.gif

Alright, thanks a lot. Just got the cards and realized I may have been too quick to purchase them. I got an i5-3550 3.7GHZ. I read that only Crysis 3 would cause my CPU to bottleneck my GPU but I'm not so sure now. Is my CPU too weak to handle my Crossfire X 7950's?

Edit: Also, I seen my 7950's are clocked only at 850MHZ. Most I see are clocked at 900MHZ. Considering mine are running in CFX, would it be useful to OC them?

Edit: The price dropped even further for a short time at 249$. I called cx service and they refunded me 42$ on my credit card. I'd say it's a pretty decent deal overall no?
