Best RAM for gaming?

Thread Starter
The last thread i could find touching this subject was dated 2011, so I would like to get an updated answer if possible. I am looking for a nice 2x4gb kit. So far I am looking at Crucial's ballistix elite, Patriot's Viper 3, Kingston Hyperx Genesis, and a couple gskill kits. Any other thoughts or suggestions? I mostly use my computer to game and my sector 5 is failing as of late. My budget is around 80$ Thanks!

Anything 1600mhz and in the size you want... RAM isn't really a big factor for gaming anymore. As long as it has good timings and runs at the specified speed it will be fine.

Alright, thank you much. I guess it will come down to looks and price then. That makes it a lot easier. biggrin.gif

If I did it again, I would probably get 1866 Mhz and up; however 1600 Mhz + and you're fine as BritishBob said.

I wouldn't get the cheap stuff, but decent branded stuff.

I ended up getting Vengeance 1600. It was only 65$ and I think it is a good kit so far. Overclocks well.

I know a lot of people feel RAM is RAM but my experience with this is different. It seems pretty much every motherboard I have seen has a different RAM it does not like. In the end I have found that if I always buy Kingston I have never once had a compatibility issue. There is no other RAM brand I can say that about.
