Seeking OCN's immediate help

Hello everyone,
ill get staraight to the point! im building a gaming pc for the first time, but iam on a tight budge, so i will be buying half of it right now ( The main parts ) and the other half next year ( GC , SSD , Luquid Cooling) for this reason i will be using intels iGPU to play some games until then ( low settings) is it a good idea to do this? or do i risk something?
and since Haswell's 4600 Graphics offer best IGPU Performance (Not APU Since i will add Discrete Graphics later) i had my eyes on it ( I5 4670K ) But the motherboards cost a lor more than ivy and my biggest concern is the overclockability of Haswell chip ( iplan on goin to at least 4.3Ghz With a noctua air cooler, is that even possible?) so the problem is, should i buy haswell? or avoid it? will broadwell bring significantly better performance on a 1150 Basis?

Please help me make up my mind.

Go for what you can right now. Intel's tick-tock wont stop for our satisfaction or patience.

Haswell does offer quite a handful of low cost motherboards too. A decent one would be the Z87 Extreme4. Overclocking would depend more on the chip than anything else with Haswell. Although 4.3Ghz isn't a big target to achieve.

If you want to save some cash I would go with Ivy Bridge. As far as iGPU performance goes and gaming.. I don't know if I personally could tolerate the settings I would need to use for the game to be playable for a year until I had more money.

You may want to re-evaluate your build altogether and possibly put together a AMD machine with a GPU, SSD, etc..

As far as 4.3Ghz OC goes thats a small increase in clock speed and should be no problem, if you plan to get the D14 you'll have plenty of headroom for more overclock. thumb.gif

I considered ivy bridge for a long time, but seeing as i must stick to iGPU, haswell offers quite a boost over it, (i can see a 7-9 fps boost in games like crysis 3 in 1366x786 from some videos in youtube, it runs at 25-30fps and if that is true i can absuloutly live with it, you think those vids are legit anyway ? have you ever used your iGPU for games like this?) also i dont understand what you mean by the third sentence, is it that you can live with / like it or the opposite? ( Sorry english noob here)

For the amd build, well AMD Processors do not have iGPU (besides APUs) so i dont see that as a solution, i could be wrong thou, could you explain further?

i saw some people complaining that hw isnt exceeding 4.1Ghz so that is why i am a bit suspectious,

as far as temps go, what would be an ideal temp for aida or p95 on stock clock test on a 4670k? i want to know that because its the first thing i want to test to return the cpu if it is unsatisfying, does those temps affect global oc performance on the long run?

I see no reason why those videos wouldn't be legit, if you can live with 25-30fps in Crysis 3 I say go for it. I have never used the iGPU for any games, I only use it for extended desktop and have been playing around with QuickSync in Handbrake. Sorry I meant to say I "couldn't" tolerate it, but I've always had a discrete GPU so my expectations in the graphics depart are set alot higher than what the iGPU offers.

What I mean by looking at an AMD build is you could get let's say an FX6300 and a decent motherboard and compared to an Intel build (Haswell + 1150 mobo) the difference might net you a decent discrete video cards. You would have to play with different setups to see if you could justify the switch. Not going to say an AMD system will run with a Haswell setup but it's worth looking into.

Some people might have just got bad chips, I'm sure more Haswell owners wouldn't mind chiming in on this. I just got my 3770k yesterday so I havn't had any time with it on the bench yet. My 2500k which I sold to get the 3770k I had running at 4.5ghz on air and 5.1ghz on water stable.

i appreciate the time you put into answering me;
regarding that AMD Setup, i dont think its going to cut it, as i plan on adding a high end end gc later ( g880 / g980 / a9 / a10) and purchasing a setup like that will kill my initial budget and thus i will stay struggeling again and that is what i wish not to happen, besides, upgrading later will make me need to buy a whole new system again, and thats not what iam looking for,
my biggest concern right now, is Haswell a good base point to build my first rig around it? i plan on keeping this setup for at least 3 years, i wish to play next gen games decently when i buy my graphics card, or should i wait for another CPU Gen?

Or maybe stick to an ivy bridge and save myself the troubles will do? but iam afraid that the system will get old soon and lose future upgradability as i heard bw will be in 1150.
iam so torn right now, either choosing hw for the igpu wich will hopefully grant me a better experience while iam waiting, but will bring about more problems related to it, or go with ivy and save some money and have a better binned chip.

Not a problem man. I understand where your coming from, just trying to provide alternatives. But I would say yes if you're going to build now I would get Haswell. The 1155 is a dead platform now that Z87/1150 has hit the shelves. I think "future proofing" is a lousy term to use with the rate technology is evolving today, but for the foreseeable future that Haswell build should last you quite awhile.

You pretty much answered your own question, the benchmarks show a ~5% performance difference (CPU) between IB and Haswell. But 1150 is the new supported platform. If you buy a Haswell chip you have an upgrade path with the 1150.
