"So how often are guns actually used in self-defense in America? http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcdguse.html
On the high side the estimate runs around 2.5 million defensive gun uses a year, which dwarfs our approximately 16,000 homicides in any recent year, only 10k of which are with guns. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm
Of those with guns, only a couple hundred are with rifles. So basically, the guns that the anti-gunners are the most spun up about only account for a tiny fraction of all our murders.
But let’s not go with the high estimate. Let’s go with some smaller ones instead. Let’s use the far more conservative 800,000 number which is arrived at in multiple studies. That still dwarfs the number of illegal shootings. Heck, let’s even run with the number once put out by the people who want to ban guns, the Brady Center, which was still around 108,000, which still is an awesome ratio of good vs. bad.
So even if you use the worst number provided by people who are just as biased as me but in the opposite direction, gun use is a huge net positive. Or to put it another way, the Brady Center hates guns so much that they are totally cool with the population of a decent sized city getting raped and murdered every year as collateral damage in order to get what they want."

I am sick of people pulling the "times have changed" nonsense. Yes, times have changed. There are significantly more criminals to defend ourselves from than there were. If anything the need for personal defense has skyrocketed.
Crime rates have been going down as conceal carry was supported by more and more states. Again, this doesn't prove anything, but it sure flies right in the face of the nonsense idea that if people all have handguns the US will turn into the wild west. Funny how the opposite has proven to be true.
Please tell me why, if that is not true, have 100% of the states in the US chosen to support concealed carry. Just like cars doing more good than harm, so too do guns.
The first time someone breaks into your house and threatens your wife or girlfriend, or god forbid your child, you will wish you had a gun handy.
You call me out only minutes after a post was made that proves me correct. Good job
As for not wanting to live in a society where your life depends on your ability to shoot... Nobody does. But that argument does absolutely nothing to make you more or less right. It has precisely nothing to do with this debate at all other than the fact that you already do live in that society.
The first time someone threatens your life, you will find out very quickly that telling him "you don't want to be shot" wont stop him from doing so. In reality, a place where most of this country does not live, you cannot make the problem go away by simply pretending it is not there.
The problem is already here, and everyone who is in favor of more gun control cannot provide any logical argument that indicates it will work. They simply say "we need more laws!" and when asked what those laws could do and how, they suddenly have no opinion. Their train of thought ends there, and they expect someone else to do the rest of the work.I have asked repeatedly what you think will be solved by more laws, and what you think those laws should be. While you have endless opinions on what you think will happen by doing so, you have not provided anything at all in regards to what those laws should be.
