Since when are Idle temps so high on EVGA GTX 680?

Sup fellas! Long time since I being around the OC forums thumb.gif

So For the past 3 1/2 months I noticed that my GPU temps are much higher! Of course since this issue started almost 4 months ago, I haven't being able to bring my Idle temps on my EVGA GTX 680 (No OC all Stock) back down to 28c or 30c! Which was the standard for the longest time!

I haven't changed anything on my configuration, or inside my rig. Since then I have tried countless Drivers specially these past few weeks. I rolled back, tried beta drivers, anything possible to achieve my precious 28c idle which was a standard for me by now.

I have tried Clean boot, but nothing changes my temps. In fact I just did a fresh Windows Install today! and using current latest Drivers had the same result. Even updated BIOS! but to no avail. I just did a rollback to 314.22 (March Drivers I believe) but my Idle temps are still way too high for my liking! and specially considering that I have being getting 28c for the longest time on Idle.

I am using the SAME custom Fan profile I always have used too.

Before
28c Idle

Past 3 1/2 Months, up to now.
35-36 Idle!

That is a huge jump! 7-8c! that's quiet significant, and quiet frankly is bugging the crap out of me.

35c @ 46% Fan profile. Like I stated, I have kept the same fan profile since! I know I can increase the FAN to 55% but it all seems unecessary given that I could maintain 28c @ 36% Fan or less.

I feel as I have exausted my ideas on what may be causing this. All I can think is either GPU issues or PCI slot issues on the MoBo.

(PS: I know for some of you even 32c is normal, I don't doubt it, but going from constant 28c for months and months, now getting 35c? something is wrong)

I even cleaned my GPU yesterday! this is what I found, but is clean now redface.gif my PC is always kept dust free as well! I make sure to clean it at least every 2 weeks.

i sorta maybe just went through some flonkiness today - after using only afterburner for months i went and upgraded precisionX and see what changes it had. i goofed around and clicked on kboost and saw my idle temps go up about 10c.

it took uninstalling precisionX, giving myself a full driver enima and then reinstalling the drivers and afterburner to get the idle temp back down.

yes, i believe it was; everything was fine until i updated it and goofed around with it

- hey what bad thing can happen? i am an expert!
rolleyes.gif

so not only did i uninstall it but also uninstalled the driver through windows and then using driver fusion to clean up any fingerprints while in safe mode, rebooted used Ccleaner to clean the registry for what driver fusion missed, rebooted again and installed the latest 326.29 BETA

now my idle temp is back down to a nice 38c from 48c. it was hitting 60c without my fan profile . .mad.gif

I can VOUCH that After uninstalling EVGA Precission X, Rebooting (Keeping same drivers) and installing After Burner & Kumbuster my IDLE temps have gone back down to 30c!!! while having Firefox running. thumbsupsmiley.png
I never thought it would be Precision causing the issue! but it was! no coincidence here.

thumb.gif Thank you biggrin.gif hahahah. I am at peace now.

Add: Fan profile set in increments of 10, so 30c fan it at 40%. If only there was a way to notify EVGA of the issue? oh well.
