Entry level gaming APU based system for my friend?

Thread Starter
Hi there, my friend wants me to build him a PC for under (or just a little over) 500 bucks, here in Australia the majority of parts are quite overpriced, but this is what I have managed to come up with (note: case was his preference)

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=192944&action=wish_lists

Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably just from this site thanks biggrin.gif

Get the matching strike-x psu, its only $3 more
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=22536

I can vouch for the psu quality, im using it right now, my friend also has one in his i5 ivy rig.
It should also be a lot stronger than a 430w psu.

I revised the wishlist a bit to save some cash:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=192944&action=wish_lists

I know the asus writer is better quality, but your friend probably wont burn a lot of discs so a cheaper one would be fine. The seagate 500GB is also cheaper than WD which is quite a surprise.
Too bad the gigabyte and msi boards at around $90 dont have vrm heatsinks.

intent of use for the PC?

you really want dual channel(2 sticks) of atlest 1866mhz ram for the APU to shine

and do you really need/want that big of a case/board? maybe a matx would be more suitable

consider

He's using it for gaming and basic web browsing. I might get that Motherboard instead so I can have some money left for more ram, as it is very, VERY overpriced here. And it was his choice on the case, I'll see if he might want something different.

The ram prices went up recently so 4gb should be fine for now.
He can just add another stick later on if he wants to dual channel.

My ram usage never gets past 3gb when gaming.
The only reason i have 16gb is because I use after effects which eats like 11gb on a project.

4GB is minimal IMO, remember you are going to assign a healthy portion to the iGPU for games, probly 1GB worth

Thanks for everyone's input, I'll just leave him with 4gb for, as he is on quite a tight budget.

Make sure you get him dual channel memory, otherwise an APU system will choke up.

4GB "Might" be fine, but APUs do share the main system memory so he'll only have access to 2-3GB of his RAM.

Also those RAM price increases are insane.
