I started with a fresh format of the USB and reinstalled the secure erase about 3 different times ( with a format after each. as well as putting the usb into the usb3 and usb2 ports. Also it gives the same error with the GUI with a disk burn.

Maybe try another rev of magician

or use parted magic.

Actually you may ne even need to se your drive. Why do you want to? A simple quick format is fine.

the reason is that I like having full functionality of the programs I install on my computer. and parted magic worked. thanks!

Switch the SATA Port to IDE for the erase. After erase switch it back to AHCI. This should work. Please report back if it doesn't.

would that setting be in the bios? or are you talking about physically moving the sata connector?

The problem is not your USB flash drive, or being in AHCI or IDE mode. It's an oddball thing with the Samsung DOS version. The screen is all garbled because a font needs to be installed. This is detailed in the Secure Erase section of the Magician Help documentation, which is located at the bottom of the Magician GUI.

I've done this myself and it worked fine. You get to the DOS command line and execute a command to load the font, and another to start the SE process. Why this is so clumsy I don't know, but I do know that it works.
