Hi Everyone - Opinions on new build

Thread Starter
Hi there smile.gif
I have been visiting this site for a couple of months now, reading up on parts to replace my ancient Q6600 rig.

This is what I currently have in mind:

PCPartPicker list

CPU i5-4670K
CPU Cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE (Blue)
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage WD Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Video Card Sapphire HD7950 Vapor-X OC 3GB
Case Fractal Design Arc Midi R2
Case Fans 2x Fractal Design SS 140mm
Power Supply XFX Pro 850W

I'm going for a black, white and blue coloured theme.
I know the PSU is overkill, but I'd like to have room for crossfire in the future.

What do you think?
Does it seems reasonable or would you replace some parts for others in the same price range?

Thanks

Looks like a really solid build and there isnt really anything to improve in this price range. Maybe you can save some money in the future for an ssd.

Welcome to OCN and nice to see a fellow dane

And the XFX 850 watts is overkill you could go as low as 650 watts and still have power left over

If you want head room 700-750 watts is still more then enough

This would be my top pick here in Denmark

http://www.edbpriser.dk/stroemforsyning/cooler-master-v-series-v700-id-7323643.aspx

Or the V850

Yep definitely can't skip out on an SSD. I'll take the Samsung 830 256 from my old rig, so that's covered =)

Here in Denmark, it's like $35 more unfortunately. Actually this 2x8 1866 set is 3$ less than the proposed 1600 set, but the Ballistic 1866 is 10-10-10-30, and the Ballistic 1600 set is 9-9-9-24, so I don't know if it's worth it? I'm also not sure it can fit under the TC14PE? Cheapest CL9 1866 memory is ~$30 more.

Hej =) Thanks for the suggestions. The V700 is $40 more than the XFX850 though, and the arc midi should have space behind the motherboard for excess cables.
I guess I could step down to a non-modular 750W psu, but the XFX850 is only $10 more than the XFX750

Here in Denmark, it's like $35 more unfortunately. Actually this 2x8 1833 set is 3$ less than the proposed 1600 set, but the Ballistic 1833 is 10-10-10-30, and the Ballistic 1600 set is 9-9-9-24, so I don't know if it's worth it? The V700 is pretty much the best bang for buck PSU right now here in Denmark

The V is a Seasonic KM3

Just compare price between them

Alright thanks. If I find the money for a modular PSU, I'll consider the V700.
It will definitely be nicer for cable management and looks, and seems atleast a level above the XFX quality-wise.

Otherwise, to save money, I'm still considering the XFX 750: http://www.edbpriser.dk/stroemforsyning/xfx-core-edition-pro750w-id-4321095.aspx ($50 cheaper)

I got a friend that has that very PSU and he always compalin about the cables are non modular

But you dont need 750 watts unless you want two video cards

If you only going to have one you can do with a 550 watts PSU

Yes I'd like to have room for another oc'ed 7950 in the future.

The non-modular one will require some careful installment,
but with the case I have in mind, arc midi r2, it should be doable: http://www.overclock.net/t/1199014/fractal-arc-midi-w-non-modular-psu
