Sennheiser HD580

Hi everyone,
I just founded in my local store a pair of Sennheiser HD580 for 100-120€. Since I do have the money to buy them, I was wondering :
1. Is those headphones are good for gaming (positional audio) ?
2.I already have the Gamecom 380. Would I notice any improvement ?
3. Since they need a soundcard, will an ASUS XONAR DX work well with them ?
4. In case I have to buy a more expensive soundcard, my onboard soundcard will be powerful enough to make them work until I have enough money to buy a decent sound card + amp ?
Thanks a lot !

1. Not the best but not the worst.

2. If you even try to compare hifi headphones with any gaming headset, it's the same as a foreigner comparing mämmi with chocolate pudding (as the mämmi tastes plain horrible to anyone who isn't used/immune to the bad taste).

3. The HD580 are a 300ohm headphone, Xonar DX can't drive them (properly).

4. Rule of thumb when buying headphones: First test the headphones and then see which amplifier/soundcard/DAC you need. And the info you have given us is not enough to decide if the onboard is even moderately useable.
Sound Blaster Z soundcard should be able to run them "decently" with its build-in headphone amp.

*Points at the OCN recommended audio sticky *
