Athlon 3700 - Sandiego Core.

Well I'm just curious about this cpu.
its set at great price and I was wondering is it a good bang for the buck?
I'm a heavy gamer, and mild pc ethusiaist. I got the cpu with a combo deal on a DFI Lanparty UT -expert from newegg. And I wanted to know what you guys think about the processor. Can it handle games? Current and possibly some new games? ( I have a 7800GT with a gig of ram btw) I mean I know it's a single core. But I figured it would be fine for a ocuple of months cause I'm not a big multitasker.
What do you people think?

I have a San Diego 3700.
It may be the very best AMD single core cpu sold to date. Stepping codes
on the core are critical.
Some overclock extremely well (look at my rig profile), and some dont oc well (the worst max's @ 2.6g +-, the best @ 3.0 or better on air, water more).
If you have a DFI NF4 mobo and good ram (ddr4000 or more) that cpu will play games as good as any other but at an extreme discount per price.
It will multi-task fine (just not as well as the newer dual-cores).
For the price, your the winner unless you need the latest and greatest techno.
It was the top beast only 6 months ago untill Intel C2D came out.

With a DFI mobo (Ultra D) and some GSkill HZ ram (or TeamXtreme), good psu (OCZ recommended) you wont have any regrets.
If you want new top of the line C2D or more, your gonna pay. The newer techno
right now is also too far ahead of the newly sold games (total overkill).
3700 SanDiego is the "BANG FOR THE BUCK" unless your rich. G L. my rig: $750. +- OS & monitor

Thanx guys..... I'm not looking back anymore so AMD here I come. Only thing is I don't have any Gskill Ram, I guess I'll just save up and get some. one more thing: I heard on the DFI lanparty mobo's you have to manually put the RAM timeings in? is this true? When I had my mom order my stuff, I had to go with A-data its pc3200. (you think I will be ok?)

Some of the A-Data does well actually, it's all dependant on the IC used for the most part.
If it's a Default CAS2.5 you'll have less need for the divider where ad CAS3 will require a higher divider.

You can save yourself some bucks by buying the MSI Neo4-F motherboard. It overclocks far higher than you'll use and can be found for under $70 at newegg. Also, if you don't have high performance ram, you can always run a divider, so don't think you're unable to OC your cpu with budget ram.

The DFI Expert is a great motherboard, but not worth the extra cost in his situation. There are several far cheaper motherboards out there that will easily exceed 350 mhz, which is beyond what he'll need.

i think what sccr is trying to say is that if he didn't already buy the DFI board that the MSI board would be the way to go (which i agree too).
