Quick Question on Dig DVI to Analogue VGA

Hi,

So here's the deal. I have a 6950, and recently got myself a Qnix 1440p display that requires a dual-link DVI, that went fine. After a while of staring at it drooling, I realized that because I went from HDMI to DVI, and I had to steal the DVI port from my projector (Which runs at 1024x768, VGA) I can no longer use the projector with the secondary DVI port, which seems to be a DVI digital single link. The projector cannot be recognized, as it is going from a digital to analogue signal.

My question is this, is there an easier solution than buying a mini-displayport or full size displayport to VGA adapter? I hear that it has to be an ACTIVE adapter, and the cheapest I've been seeing these is for around 18 dollars on Monoprice.

Is there any way for me to get this VGA projector/monitor to work without buying an adapter? If not, please recommend me a solid choice if you would.

Thank you.
