OK i know im stupids but motor oil are made to last in high heat and various metal...

DO you think it can work? For watercooling i know oil is heavier than water..

it is heavier but also takes longer to heat up and cool down so the thermal transfer isn't as good as water.

There's two problems with that which sort of also compound each other.

Firstly the oil is more viscous than water so you will get a reduced flow rate.

Secondly the heat capacity of oil is less than that of water so you would have to have a greater flow rate to achieve the same cooling......which takes us back to the first problem.

I guess it would work but you'd need a heavier duty pumping setup.....plus you'd have to look into the chemical compatibilities of the plastic hoses and pump seals & housings etc etc....I know you have to use special hose for pumping mineral oil and would imagine the same would apply to motor oil.

124C 0.2552 W/mK
140C 0.2297 W/mK
155C 0.2130 W/mK

This is the thermal conductivity of 0W30 grade motor oil.

Why would you use oil when water has a thermal conductivity of roughly 0.6 W/mk is beyond me.

Motor oil is actually less dense than water but significantly more viscous. A main point of motor oil is to lubricate the moving parts of an engine. That's not necessary inside a computer. Oil itself is also not nearly enough to actually cool off an engine, which is why most if not all cars today with combustion engines have a liquid cooling system that is water based (antifreeze is part water). They use water because water carries heat better than oil. The primary use for motor oil is lubrication not cooling generally speaking. The reason they don't corrode and survive in heat is just in the nature of oil, because it's not water.

Lets not forget all of the cleaning agents and other things in oil that would probably wreak havoc on tubing and other watercooling components.
