A 550W PSU should be more than enough for a 780 and the Haswell i5. 580 Euros is actually around $770 right now, believe it or not, so it's cheaper than what you pay in Germany/Holland/wherever you are in the EU.
I actually have a 24/7 rig here sitting silently with a 2600k at 4.8 and 4GB of 2133MHz RAM... such a pain to have it sit around... but I'm too lazy to sell it... I should work on that. The heat and noise were just too much, it got carried away. Anyways I feel like I did my part, you know? 13 million points is pretty nice.
Edit - just saw your post with the pics. Nice rig and a great setup! Beautiful view! Where do you live?
Also, get yourself some real headphones to match the sweet keyboard and mouse!
Yes I saw that you meant the 550w and edited my post. I thought we were speaking about the 450w silverstone. Which would still be adequate though if amps on the 12V rails are good. I have a 400w PSU, good quality though and I am tempted going 780 seeing that my 3770k and 760 only use 220 w from the wall while folding.
Ask around a bit about the fan noise of the silverstone. If fanless units are indeed virtually silent than you could opt to get one. They have superb efficiency too, because that means less conversion heat.
Yes you are right about conversion of euro to dollar bot most of the time vendors put a euro sign instead of a dollar sign to 'convert' prices which makes it actually more expensive. So nice to see that they did a proper conversion. Still I remember hearing 600 dollar as launch price of the 780.
Wow 13 mil points, good job! Only on the CPU? Hehe you should give the rig to a gaming family member? Or just plug it in somewhere in an unguarded plug in someones basement and let it fold for eternity
Does ram speed help decently on PPD?
Yes I got those headphones form my girlfriend and I feel obliged to use them
They are serving well for about 3 years now. Sound is not bad but it hurts on the ear after long gaming sessions. You have anything in mind? I tried a razer Carcharias but was very disappointed. It works through usb and it buzzed like crazy. Returned it and am now scared of trying new audio products
Thanks, I live in Belgium in a little rural town but we have quite a nice garden. It is a lot of work though but it pays off in the summer.
