I know if the corsair rad fans I used got over 1600 rpm they made the same noise, I returned them and went gentle typhoons.

this is a problem for any brand of fan due to current conventional fan construction. kinda surprised that manufactures haven't engineered an upward blowing optimized fan since there is such a HUGE demand for it in the computer industry. the problem gets worse as the size of the fan increase. so 80mm fan. virtually not a problem at all, 120mm fan is noticeable and 140mm fan it becomes a problem. 180mm or 200mm fan is a real problem but there are other acoustic issues associated with larger fans too so it's not the 1st thing people talk about on fans of those sizes.

No they are a form of sleeve(hydro dynamic).

I used a globe golf fan(plain old sleeve) for about 2-3 years horizontally before it started to grind. On the plus side, up to that point it moved air fine and was very quiet.

Gentle Typhoon's because of the ball bearings should last quite long as a horizontal fan. I have one on my H80i on top of the case and will see how it lasts(honestly if they made these pwm, they would be the perfect fan for quieter[ball bearings still have a certain noise, but you get the point] operation and long life).

I have run Noctua's(again it is a form of sleeve) horizontally without issues so far.

As for the fastest fan I ever killed? Gelid Silent 7. Lasted 5 months then started to grind and slow down to half speed. Shame they do not offer any warranty(or at least do not reply to e-mail).
