Hi

I have 1080p 120hz monitor. When gaming, should I turn on the vsync? Or limit the fps through the evga precision x to 120fps? I am trying to avoid screen tearing. I have 2 gtx 780 in sli.

A good setting is "Adaptive VSYNC".

It behaves like VSYNC ON, but avoids the sudden framerate-halvings that can occur when game action starts getting busy. (Tearing can reappear during those slowdowns, but if you keep your game running fast, the tearing should rarely occur)

VSYNC OFF is better for competitive gaming. Less input lag.
VSYNC ON produces better motion quality during framerate=Hz gaming (if you can avoid frame drops).

VSYNC ON versus OFF have their own pros and cons. Adaptive VSYNC is like VSYNC ON when framerate=Hz, but behaves like VSYNC OFF when framerate slows down. Adaptive also has has less input lag than VSYNC ON.

How do I enable adaptive vsync? I don't see that in the game menu setting.

It's in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Go to Manage 3D settings > Vertical sync > Adaptive

So I turn off the vsync in the game menu, and turn off the fps limiter right? Just use the nvidia control panel.

If you set a value in the Nvidia Control Panel it overrides any game settings so it doesn't matter what you use in-game.
