Linux Drivers. - Page 2

The laptop does not have a working LAN port? If not you will need another PC to get the firmware files and necessary packages.

That should get you going. It's not that hard once you get all the stuff ready.

As for the video drivers, Ubuntu will come with working open source drivers for your chip. I think you can get the proprietary drivers too, but they are legacy and you can't get them directly from AMD's website (not compatible with the current Ubuntu release, but there is a ppa I think). However, they suck balls compared to the open drivers. Your best bet is to use the xorg edger's ppa.

Easiest thing to do would be get the firmware files.

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=101976

That should help, you can get the appropriate package (without apt-get, then just use dpkg -i packagename) here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/firmware-b43-installer

You can also try the WL driver but I dislike it, causes KPs for me.

Windows drivers do not work on Linux.

in Terminal, do: lspci -v
to get a list of PCI drivers installed.
You might have other drivers available on the OS CD. list what's on CD to see them.
Also, see if you can run OS from the LiveCD and wifi works. If it works, you might have an installation (on HDD) error.
Another way I'd try is to make a wired connection to router and look for the correct driver in repositories.
