Difficulty obtaining Stability - 3770k @ 4.6 ghz

Thread Starter
System Components
OS : Win7 64 Pro
Mobo: MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming
CPU : i7-3770k
RAM : 32gb ( 4x8gb) Corsair Vengeance LP

System is De-lidded: so temps will always is under 55 C

Current settings
Multiplier : 44
VCore : 1.150

I'm trying to achieve 4.6ghz, but I'm having difficult testing Prime95. It crashes before even finishes an entire set of testing, roughly 4 minutes in.
At 4.6ghz my vcore is 1.190.

I also, have xmp enabled, not sure if this affects my overclock in any manner.

Any idea will help, and if additional information is required, I will post as quickly as possible.

Almost the same mobo as you, running my 3570k 4.6 at 1.25, pump up the voltage.

I've pumped it up to 1.28, and I still have the issue with p95.

Well, I don't use XMP profiles, so that's different for you and me. this board has been the easiest overclocking board I have owned. I also don't use any turbo features.

I just disabled PLL voltage, about 5 minutes ago and started p95, it has yet to crash. I was going to switch to xmp profiles disabled as soon as I have 4.6 stable.

I came from the Asus p8z68-v pro gen3, and that was a bit easier for me. since Sandybridge overclock is super easy to learn now.

I really didn't find myself changed many OC settings to get mine done. I even had it stable at 5.0, just took too much voltage for my liking.

How much ram are you using?

Update status with PLL Voltage disabled; Prime95 did crash again after test 4 - first round.

8gb of DDR1600 and I have Internal PLL Enabled. Maybe your CPU just wont do 4.6, try 4.4 or 4.5

IIRC having a lot of ram, makes overclocking more difficult.

New adjustments to bios with 1 hour of p95 stress testing

Pll overvoltage : disabled
Vcore : 1.215
XMP: Disabled and manually entered the ram timing.

Going to continue p95 stress testing over, and I'll reply in the morning if anything else goes wrong.
