I've had enough disappointment. Maybe I'm too finicky.
Been hunting for a new mouse for about a month now; coming from a Logitech G9X+Precision Skin using Fingertip/Claw/Ninja Grip.
I've tried just about everything available (which also reminds me I need to do some "reviews") and will admit have come close, I'll explain on that in a bit.
Basically, I am looking for more suggestions on what to try for a new mouse. I don't care if it's optical or laser, but I do lean more towards laser as the CM Storm Spawn is the only optical I know of that lets you have actual custom CPI/CPI and not just native steps.
Hey, Look!
Left to Right:
Razer Taipan
Logitech G700S
Razer Naga Hex (Wraith Red Edition)
Steelseries WoW (World Of Warcraft) Mouse
Logitech G9X with Precision Grip.
This is how I usually hold my G9X:
I'll go by manufacturer then product model just so I'm not jumping all over the place:
Razer Taipan - actually felt awesome physically, just too narrow, couldn't grip it properly. Also tracking would have probably taken some time to get used to because of the 'dual sensor' system.
Razer Orochi - SMALL. VERY, VERY SMALL. THE MS BASIC OPTICAL MOUSE V2? YEAH, SMALLER THAN THAT.
Razer Naga/Naga Hex - Okay. Naga(2013?) Tracked Awesome despite Z-Axis issue. I wanted to like it but none of the interchangeable grips or just using the mice bare felt comfortable. The Naga Hex was the same way though you can't change the grips on that.
Razer Deathadder 2012+2013 - Again, liked the tracking. The mouse's physical profile was too big for my preference and I found myself laying my hand on the mouse and then not being able to click rapidly/properly when playing FPS games.
Razer Abyssus - Tracked well, didn't feel special to me though. Good mouse but length-wise was too long for preference/my hand and I found myself palm-gripping.
Logitech Mx518 - I could use this mouse, compared to the G400 it's lighter and slightly smaller I'd say (EDIT - THIS IS BECAUSE MY FRIEND TOOK A DREMEL TO THEIRS.) but it's near impossible to find one, plus the one I did have was a friend's and she is quite attached to it.
Logitech G400/S - Liked them both. LOVED the sensor implementation/ROM especially in the 'S' variant, but the mouse was just uncomfortable to hold altogether.
Logitech G500/S - For some reason, likely related to sensor placement, I didn't like how it tracked. Very big mouse.
Logitech G700/S - Tried wired and wireless just for kicks. I can actually hold this more comfortably than the G500, but had the same issues as I did with the G500.
Logitech G9X - God Tier. 99999/10 Logitech why do you not have plans for a new one. Okay seriousness, mouse has been my daily driver for close to 3 years now, or maybe even over that. I fell in love with it when I used a friend's at a LAN waaaay back. I can't even remember the mouse I was using at the time.
Logitech G100S - I tried this out of curiosity, especially after seeing r0ach's thread about it.. I liked it, but the profile switch button under the scroll wheel kept getting in the way.
Cooler Master Storm Spawn - I held a friend's briefly. I have one on order to evaluate and should be here either 7/29 or 7/30. - May edit post with information or just quote this in a new post.
Cooler Master Storm Recon - I have mixed feelings about it. The software definitely leaves a lot to be desired, though it does use the hailed 3090 Optical sensor. Tracking actually did not feel all that exceptional to me even after playing with basically every setting accessible. I definitely did not like only being able to adjust DPI/CPI to what I'll assume were the 'native' steps instead of something custom; I.E 1000 DPI instead of 800 or 1600. The physical feel of the mouse itself was some kind of matte-rubber like mixture, very slippery even when it 'warms' to your contact. I could hold it fairly comfortably but would get cramps even just 12-15 minutes into a gaming/editing session because I'm trying not to press the arrow keys on the side of the mouse or hold it so my hand doesn't slide around. The height profile of the mouse I wish was lower, length and width I think were perfect.
Corsair Raptor M40 - Fairly decent tracking. It was upon using this that I discovered I may be more accustomed to laser sensors. Despite this I still think it tracked fairly well, though the overall shape of the mouse definitely took some getting used to. I didn't have any issues with the material used on the mouse, but the length is what took some adjusting to; I'm assuming that's because I'm used to shorter mice. The thought crossed my mind of opening it and seeing if there was some of the back I could lop off or something, probably not. I also had the issue of the scroll wheel bouncing around in it's seat but I'd consider that a very minor issue. Can get annoying if you're doing some late night research, though.
Corsair Vengeance M65 - On order, I should also have this 7/29 or 7/30 to evaluate. I'm hoping I like it or the spawn (or both? oh noes).
Steelseries WoW (World Of Warcraft) Legendary Mouse - Very good shape. Tracks very well, I was in the process of finding the exact sensor it used so I could share that in my mini 'review' , I believe it may share one with one of the Roccat mice. What really bugged me about this was the plastic covered top( And the price!!!) but that could likely be rectified with plasti-dip.
Edit:
Saitek/Mad Catz R.A.T 7 - I liked it. Same sensor as some of the Razer mice so something familiar. Again, Z-Axis not being a problem though it was actually more present in this device. The shape is really close to the G9X, but the mouse itself(RAT7) is just really heavy. - I had almost forgotten about this one
There's my short novel. I've been around the block so to speak, so I'm hoping my information will be able to supplement any suggestions. I appreciate the time of anyone who has read THIS far to see what I'm on about.
Looking forward to hearing what kind of suggestions come forth
